In the perspective of Enlight Energy Services, Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) requires attention and in-depth analysis.

This is why, during our latest “Lunch & Learn”, we had the pleasure of hosting Luca Stocco who shared his truly enlightening vision with us.

Although it may seem counterintuitive, Luca suggests adopting a rational approach while defining the contributions that a company can make in order to have a positive impact. Here are his main recommendations:

Cost-effectiveness It’s essential to prioritize initiatives that maximize impact per donation. The challenges we face globally are so significant that we cannot afford to allocate resources inefficiently.

False myth of low overhead costs It’s often thought that low overhead costs indicate effective management. However, real impact requires solid expertise and a professional, robust and dedicated organization. While this incurs costs, it positively reflect on outcomes.

Data-driven (or evidence based) analysis There are organizations dedicated to analyze non profit initiatives in depth, combining data analysis with on site verifications. Their studies can reveal significant differences in cost-effectiveness, which can vary by orders of magnitude — up to tens or hundred times more.

When we consider that these numbers apply to human lives, they certainly deserve serious consideration.

There are over 10 million nonprofit organizations worldwide, and the problems to solve are numerous.

Thus, in his words:

“Where you donate matters more than how much you donate.”

Data show that we can make a difference.

The global poverty rate, for example, has decreased significantly. The number of people living in extreme poverty dropped from 1.9bn in 1990 to ca 700m by 2020, before stabilizing in recent years (after COVID).

However, it’s also important to carefully evaluate the actions implemented, because every decision counts.
